Valid consent rate
Share of users who make an explicit accept, reject, or saved-preferences choice through a balanced consent UI.
Valid consent rate measures the quality of consent decisions, not raw acceptance. Count explicit, reversible choices where non-essential categories were not preselected and refusal was not hidden.
For journey-blocking consent, this KPI helps teams avoid optimizing for pressured “Accept all” clicks that may be worse for trust and compliance.
How patterns use this KPI
| Pattern | How it's instrumented | Why it matters there |
|---|---|---|
| Affordance Hijacking | consent events that require an explicit accept choice with equivalent reject access | Separates valid affirmative consent from accidental or steered acceptance. |
| Journey-Blocking Consent | Explicit accept or reject choices with no pre-checked non-essential categories | A healthy design optimizes for informed, reversible choice rather than raw accept clicks. |
